I am still working on both of my goals. My first goal is to facilitate and inspire students learning and creativity. How am I working on my goal? I am still learning how to find ways of inspiring my students to be creative using technology. Creating problem-based lesson plans give students the ability to work with the community and develop higher order thinking skills. Problem-based lesson plans can show their creativity by developing a problem, compiling research and work collaboratively with other students to develop an outcome that can be useful and be related to their real life situations. Also, finding ways to incorporate social networking and online collaborations, helps with students learning and creativity because they would be able to share information with other students around the country and world. The students would be exposed to different cultures and backgrounds that would help them be able to relate their learning to real life situations.
I am still working on my set goals. The way that I can extend them is to allow students to become more active with the technology available. Try to incorporate blogs, wikis, or other social networking to get students collaborating together outside of the school. By giving students the opportunity to develop social networking and online collaboration, their work would be available for all to see and to connect with other peers around the country and world. Before setting new goals, I would like to be able to try to incorporate some more usages of technology to enhance student's creativity and the willingness to learn more about a specific topic.
Some of the new learning approaches that I would like to start in my classes is the blogs or wiki pages for student to be able to gather information and media to present in one place of what they are learning about in history class. By helping students create blogs and/or other social networking accounts, they are going to receive a continuous feedback from their teacher, classmates, and others who have access to their blogs or wikipages. This will helps student become better at collaborating with others by displaying their thoughts on their social networking sites, receiving or giving feedback from others, and applying the suggestions to their life and assignments. Technology is expanding the way students can gather information and how to present the information in a way that they can relate to in some way.

Thomas,
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea to develop a class blog or wiki, where students can gather information and media to share in one place. I can see in a history class you could create for example a World War 1 Wiki where students could post video clips, links to online resources, and discuss questions about World War 1. If an area in the wiki was created for each big topic in history, your classes could develop a sort of on-line textbook for your course. What a valuable resource that would be. I have envisioned using a wiki/blog in my class this same way but have not begun to process yet. This is one of my long range goals. As teachers, I feel we are always working to reach our goals and along the way we set new goals. Therefore, there is always a goal driving our focus.

Michael,
ReplyDeleteLike you, one of my main goals involves the implementation of technology for facilitating and inspiring students' learning and creativity. As we have learned through this program, technology can be used to motivate students and give them a variety of tools through which they may showcase their creativity in new and exciting ways. You've listed many tools students have at their fingertips which can provide them new opportunities to utilize critical thinking, collaboration, and other 21at century skills.
Good luck as you work towards achieving your goals!
Regina
Thank you both for your post. I think utlizing the appropriate technology a classroom learning experience can be maximize. Having the time and resources available for teachers, wikipages and blogs can create an opportunity for students to express themselves in multiple ways. Using these different types of learning techniques, students will be able to access knowledge they can relate to in their real life situation by developing social networking in your classroom. These are long term goal that I have set forth within the upcoming years. Thanks once again for your responses.
